4 Myths & Misconceptions About Wrinkles

Comments

Wrinkles are unsightly and add several years to one’s age. It is one of the many skin aging signs that almost everyone wants to avoid or at least postpone for as long as possible.

The growing number of people who want to address wrinkles or prevent wrinkles from appearing until it is really time is causing the sudden increase of various anti-aging products in the market. Wrinkle creams, serums, and lotions are consistently being developed, improved and manufactured by the tons because of the demand.

If you are one of the many who are trying to combat wrinkle problems or trying to find the better ways of delaying its appearance, you need to have a basic knowledge first of the truths behind having wrinkles. Here are some of the more common myths and misconceptions about wrinkles and the truth behind each one:

Myth 1: The most effective anti-wrinkle products are the most expensive ones.

  • Fact: The price tag of the product or even the fancy packaging does not determine how it is going to work; what matters is the content of the product. The ingredients, that every anti-wrinkle product contains, determine how effective the product would be. Some of the ingredients that have been scientifically proven to address wrinkle problems include alpha hydroxy acids, retinol, coenzyme Q10, vitamins C and E, Kinetin, and tea extracts, among others.

Myth 2: Applying sunscreen is only needed when the sun is shining

  • Fact: Everybody knows that one of the number one causes of wrinkles is sun exposure; hence, the need to apply sunscreen. Wearing sunscreen is a must regardless if the sun is bright or it is cloudy outside because the sun’s harmful rays can readily penetrate through the clouds; thus, there is no excuse for not applying sunscreen.

Myth 3: Moisturizer is only needed when the skin is dry.

  • Fact: Moisturizing is a beauty regimen that should not be skipped even by people who have oily skin considering that moisture is the number one antidote against wrinkles. When the skin is hydrated or moisturized it is less prone to wrinkles as the skin becomes more flexible. If you have oily skin you can simply use moisturizers that are lighter or in gel form.

Myth 4: Using tanning beds is much safer than natural tanning in preventing wrinkles.

  • Fact:  Tanning beds are no better than sun exposure or natural tanning since the former also emits harmful rays that may cause wrinkles and other irreversible damage to the skin. If there is a need to get tan, tanning lotions are much better than tanning beds.
